Board of Judges’ Messages
Judges Ellen Fulido, Romeo Nones, Reynaldo Palmario and Adolfo Jesus Gopez share their impressions of the nominees and the judging process for the TOWER Awards 2024.
SS Ellen Fulido, FPM
I’ve always believed in Filipino Talent. The nominees presented to us during the three-day final judging period are a shining example of Ordinary Workers doing Extraordinary Works. Given the right avenue, and with the able support of Management, Filipinos can truly excel. Yes, there is Hope for this country if we continue to nurture these talents who would go the extra mile because of their Malasakit sa Kapwa at sa Kompanya. Truly, Pusong Pinoy. Tatak Pinoy!
Maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat - for the opportunity to have worked with you and to have been part of the search for The Outstanding Workers of the Republic 2024. Mabuhay po kayo!
Mr. Romeo Nones
The interviews were grueling. We had to talk to their managers for an hour and each of the nominees for an hour. The questions were about their knowledge of their operation, their appreciation of the problem, and the process by which they were able to come up with a solution. It was not easy to answer many of the questions by the judges. The standards were stringent. It included criteria to ensure that the company that the nominees work for followed strict quality standards and government regulations.
The process was inspiring. We were able to hear first-hand stories of how ordinary rank-and-file employees were able to come up with simple solutions to otherwise complex problems using available resources. Our nominees are far from ordinary. They represent the best in the Filipino worker. RC Manila is proud to be part of the Tower Awards. The high standards set by PMAP in selecting the awardees are congruent to the high standards of Rotary. May these awards not only reward past accomplishments but also inspire our future workers to strive for a better Philippines.
Mr. Reynaldo Palmario
The past 3 days of sessions had been very pleasing and a source of learning and inspiration. Our hope for progress is rekindled by the nominated organizations, team, and individuals. We had first-hand experience with how management and labor, particularly what is called the rank and file, motivate each other to come up with innovative solutions that alleviate a chronic situation towards a condition that enriches trust and confidence with each other. This positive situation impacts all stakeholders with an overall benefit to society. Concern for others, especially for safety and operational ease of doing work prevailed as a key reason for the awardees that sparked their ingenuity to realize their projects.
We are fortunate that during these times, there are established effective and useful Quality Management Systems, tools and approaches, Vision, Mission Values setting, Strategy, Data, Information and Operations Management, known and practiced by business leaders and deployed to their workforce and stakeholders. Heartfelt thanks to all, Dr. Jess, Sir Romy, Ma'am Ellen, our PMAP execs and staff, Mr. Rene Gener, Ms. Julie Miteria, Mr. Efren Alberto, and Ms. Mavy Medrano for doing the challenging assessment and coordination. Congratulations to PMAP, ROTARY CLUB OF MANILA AND DOLE for running the Tower Awards. God's blessings to all!
Dr. Ing. Adolfo Jesus Gopez
In addition to what my fellow judges have said that the TOWER Awards show the continuing drive for manufacturing quality and excellence with the consequence that the Filipino worker is evolving into a worker who is dedicated to getting quality results with continuous improvement through the application of productivity and quality tools, I would like to emphasize that the criteria themselves and the vetting process by the PMAP Assessment group for this award are thorough and beyond reproach. The Assessors deserve our congratulations for their fruitful and exhausting efforts. The comprehensive and detailed screening, with a site visit by the PMAP Assessors ensured that the search for the TOWER awardees would find deserving workers dedicated to improving the quality of their output while working for ethical and quality oriented companies with leaders and managers who are themselves worthy of emulation.
