President’s Message

The Rotary Club of Manila’s Constitution (Article IV, Section 2) and By-Laws (Article I, Section 1) mandate an early election of Directors for the ensuing year. Pursuant to this, nominations were made in August, and earlier this month, Manila Rotarians held the elections and the top eight candidates were elected to constitute the 2026-2027 Board. Our hard working PVP and current EIC Reggie Yu emerged as our President-Elect.

This unique feature of electing our leaders early reflects the foresight with which RCM prepares for the future. By already electing the officers who shall lead us in Rotary Year 2026–2027, we affirm once more that the strength of our Club lies in its ability to uphold continuity while embracing renewal, and to carry out sound succession planning.

As we all know, leadership in Rotary is a sacred trust. It is a trust born not of ambition, but of devotion to the ideals of service, fellowship, diversity, integrity, and leadership. Each incoming officer is not merely assuming a title; he is assuming a profound responsibility -- to continue what has been begun, to nurture what is still in growth, and to plant seeds that will one day bear fruit beyond his own term. In this way, the election of officers is never a simple administrative process. Rather, it is a solemn passage of stewardship, one that guarantees that our Club remains stable, united, and ever forward-looking. This was how I viewed the election last year, when I was suddenly bestowed the honor of becoming RCM’s President-Elect.

Succession planning is the heartbeat of continuity. Projects that uplift and strengthen communities, empower the youth, and respond to disasters, do not end when one Rotary year closes. They require vision that transcends calendars and leadership that spans generations. By electing our Board who will serve next year, we declare to the world that the Rotary Club of Manila is not governed by fleeting impulses, but by carefully nurtured foresight.

We entrust our future to men of proven dedication, who have ascended through years of committed service, committee work, and leadership roles that have tested both their resolve and their humility. In their hands rests the promise that the dreams of today will become the achievements of tomorrow.

The recently concluded election is also a celebration of our democratic spirit. Each of us, Manila Rotarians, has been given the privilege -- and the duty -- to shape the destiny and legacy of our beloved Club. When we cast our votes, we do more than choose leaders. We reaffirm our own responsibility to stand shoulder to shoulder with those who will bear the weight of leadership. The officers elected today do not rule from above, but serve from within, for leadership in Rotary is always a shared covenant, never a solitary burden. This is the same principle that I uphold as I and my Board continue to do our level best to serve the Club this year.

Indeed, this election (and every year’s election in RCM) is not just a moment in time. It is a reaffirmation of our enduring mission, a renewal of our collective covenant, and a declaration that Asia’s First Rotary Club shall ever remain a beacon of hope and service. Through orderly succession, thoughtful planning, and unwavering commitment, we ensure that our banner continues to fly high, unshaken by the winds of change, carried ever forward by leaders chosen with wisdom and trust.

In Rotary, the cycle of leadership is both a challenge and an opportunity. While our Presidents and officers serve for only a year, our projects and advocacies are often long-term endeavors. In all our dedicated areas of focus, the fruits of service cannot be harvested within a single year. Thus, we all must view the election of new officers in the broader context of ensuring that initiatives started today will find nurturing hands tomorrow. Continuity becomes the bedrock of impact.

While we continue to work and build our Club to become stronger and better this year, and while we collectively ensure that we are more deeply rooted in our enduring destiny and endearing legacy, we also ensure a seamless transition for our next Rotary year. With our incoming Board headed by PVP Reggie, we can now foresee that next year’s leadership will continue to embody stability amid change and vision amid tradition.
