Outstanding Ambassador Award: RCM’s Signature Project

LAST week, I wrote about the three signature projects of the Rotary Club of Manila (RCM) that will be implemented this Rotary year – TOWER Awards, Journalism Awards, and the Outstanding Ambassador Awards. In this week’s regular meeting, we are scheduled to confer the award to the Spanish Ambassador, His Excellency Miguel Utray Delgado.

Indeed, the RCM awards carries a unique moral authority and institutional weight that make it deeply respected. Several factors contribute to this gravitas:

1. RCM is the Oldest Rotary Club in Asia

Founded in 1919, RCM is not only the pioneer Rotary club in the Philippines but the very first in all of Asia. Its century-long legacy gives it historical standing unmatched by almost any civic organization in the region.

2. A Tradition of Leadership and Nation-Building

For over a hundred years, RCM has been at the forefront of civic leadership, public service, and humanitarian work. Its members have included national leaders, diplomats, captains of industry, and pillars of various professions -people whose collective stature enhances the credibility of any honor the club bestows.

3. A Proven Track Record of Major Projects

RCM is known for flagship initiatives that transformed institutions, supported good governance, strengthened communities, and elevated public discourse. This long record of meaningful, measurable impact reinforces its position as a credible judge of excellence and service.

4. Independence and Integrity

As a non-political, non-partisan civic organization, RCM confers awards free from governmental or partisan influence. This independence gives its recognitions a purity of intent: awards are given solely on merit, character, and contribution to the public good.

5. Strong International Linkages

Being part of Rotary International’s global network of professionals and leaders gives RCM global visibility and credibility. Awards such as the Outstanding Ambassador Award are strengthened by RCM’s reputation within diplomatic circles and its long relationships with the international community.
